About the Festival

The Prince George & District Music Festival is a non-profit organization founded in 1951 to foster musical excellence in Northern BC.

  • Over the past 73 years the festival has seen many changes without losing its original mandate of supporting youth in their pursuit of musical excellence.
  • This community organization is Northern BC's premier music competition for young performers and amateurs.
  • The festival is an important vehicle for performers to showcase their talents while gaining experience and obtaining valuable feedback from adjudicators.

Membership

Our Festival Mission Statement is to encourage students of music by providing an opportunity to perform, receive feedback and learn from others.

We welcome new members and encourage you to fill out the Membership application form (below). We'd be delighted to see you.

Our donors and sponsors are making a difference.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals, our young musicians are encouraged to pursue their musical goals.

Scholarship Recipient
Gabrielle Jacob, one of our scholarship recipients, said:

"I am thankful to the Prince George and District Music Festival for providing me the opportunity to learn from excellent adjudicators. Working with these adjudicators strengthened my technical and performance abilities. I was fortunate to perform regularly and prepare challenging repertoire which improved my overall playing level. As a result I was given the opportunity to tour across Canada with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. I am truly grateful to the Prince George and District Music Festival for creating a venue for me to collaborate with terrific musicians throughout my youth."

Festival Participant
Katherine Li, another festival participant, recently commented:

"I participated in the Prince George & District Music Festival for more than 10 years. The support that I received was fundamental in my growth as a performer, musician, student, and leader. I am very grateful to the many donors throughout Prince George who so generously provided scholarship funding. As a result, I was afforded opportunities to perform, compete, and meet other amazing young musicians from all over BC. These experiences helped shape my identity and provided an excellent platform for me to continue creating and playing music after high school."
