Rules

Choirs must be made up of 13 or more choristers.
All School Choirs must be made up of choristers from the same school.
5% of the choir membership may exceed the specific age limit, by no more than two (2) years.
Choirs will perform two (2) contrasting selections, one of which may be a folk song.
Brief solo passages are allowed.
It is the responsibility of the choir director to choose appropriate music selections.
The Prince George & District Music Festival is a qualifying regional festival for the Performing Arts BC Festival. Performers in any class may, at the discretion of the adjudicator, be recommended to this festival.
It is the responsibility of the choir director to be familiar with Performing Arts BC Festival qualifications (i.e., participation, submission of tapes, registration fees, awards, categories of classes, presentation and performance, and equipment). Rules and regulations are available on request from the Festival committee or from the Performing Arts BC website at www.performingartsbc.ca.
Choirs recommended to the Performing Arts BC Festival will be required to prepare and compete at their own expense.
Each choir will receive a recording of their performance. These recordings will be available to the choir director after the close of the choral competition
Risers will be available.
Choral warm-up rooms will be available one (1) hour before session begins.
Please indicate on the entry form if your choir or school class wishes to perform for the purpose of an adjudication only (non-competitively).
Choirs who receive a grade of 86% or higher (see general rule #46) will be awarded one Concert Group medal. If no performance in a class reaches this level, no medals will be awarded. Decisions are the sole prerogative of the adjudicator.

Vocal and Choral Adjudicator

CATHERINE ROBBINS is a dynamic music educator known especially for her work in vocal techniques and choral pedagogy for developing voices.

Dr. Robbins is currently Associate Professor of Choral Studies and Music Education at the University of Manitoba Desautels Faculty of Music. She teaches courses in conducting, choral methods and literature, vocal pedagogy for choirs, and directs the University of Manitoba Concert Choir.

Catherine has twice been honoured with U of M Merit Awards in the areas of teaching and service. Her primary research focuses on applications of anatomical awareness and fascia science to the voice.

Her creative works involve collaborations with Indigenous artists and explore new ways of thinking about publishing works from oral traditions. She has presented at provincial, national, and international conferences and symposiums in the areas of choral music education and vocal techniques.

Dr. Robbins has enjoyed a rich private teaching studio and has taught at all levels of the school system in Manitoba. She loves working with singers of all ages.
