Festival Rules for Choral

  1. Choirs must be made up of 13 or more choristers.
  2. All School Choirs must be made up of choristers from the same school.
  3. 5% of the choir membership may exceed the specific age limit, by no more than two (2) years.
  4. Choirs will perform two (2) contrasting selections, one of which may be a folk song.
  5. Brief solo passages are allowed.
  6. It is the responsibility of the choir director to choose appropriate music selections.
  7. The Prince George & District Music Festival is a qualifying regional festival for the Performing Arts BC Festival. Performers in any class may, at the discretion of the adjudicator, be recommended to this festival.
  8. It is the responsibility of the choir director to be familiar with Performing Arts BC Festival qualifications (i.e., participation, submission of tapes, registration fees, awards, categories of classes, presentation and performance, and equipment). Rules and regulations are available on request from the Festival committee or from the Performing Arts BC website at www.performingartsbc.ca.
  9. Choirs recommended to the Performing Arts BC Festival will be required to prepare and compete at their own expense.
  10. Each choir will receive a recording of their performance. These recordings will be available to the choir director after the close of the choral competition
  11. Risers will be available.
  12. Choral warm-up rooms will be available one (1) hour before session begins.
  13. Please indicate on the entry form if your choir or school class wishes to perform for the purpose of an adjudication only (non-competitively).
  14. Choirs who receive a grade of 86% or higher (see general rule #46) will be awarded one Concert Group medal. If no performance in a class reaches this level, no medals will be awarded. Decisions are the sole prerogative of the adjudicator.
