Specific Rules

  1. All Classical Concert Group pieces must be chosen from the same grade level from the syllabi of the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada, and entered at the appropriate grade level. Entries that do not comply with the standards set out will not be accepted.
  2. All students will be grouped by grade within the five major age categories: Beginner 10 and under, Junior 14 and under, Intermediate 18 and under, Senior 28 and under, and Adult.
  3. Juniors may stay in the same grade for 2 consecutive years, provided they have not passed the exam.
  4. NOTE: Only those students entering Classical Concert group will be considered as provincial delegates for classical voice at Performing Arts BC.
  5. Transposition
    • In the introductory Grades and Grades 1-8 songs may be transposed into any key to suit the range of the candidate’s voice
    • In Grades 9, 10 and ARCT art songs, Lieder and folksongs may be sung in any published key. Arias from opera or oratorios must be sung in the original key
  6. Musical Theatre classes
    • Staging and costuming is expected using a chair/stool and small hand held props only. Please no live flame.
    • NOTE: Only those students entering Musical theatre Concert Group class will be considered as musical theatre or tri-discipline delegates to Performing Arts BC.
